Trail’Raiser Night- Postponed 4/21

Save the Date for Sioux Center Christian School’s 4th Annual Trail’Raiser Night on Saturday, April 21. This debt-reduction fundraiser includes gourmet cupcakes, sub sandwiches, Truth T-shirts, a freewill supper, silent auction and Buy-it-Now tables, plus a live auction starting at 6:30 pm. Doors open at 3:00 pm and everyone is invited to tour the school during their Celebration of Learning Open House from 3:30 to 5:00 pm. The freewill supper of smoked pulled pork sandwiches serves from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. Retirement Open House

Together these individuals are celebrating more than 80 years of combined serve to Dordt College.  Refreshments will be served.  Please join us in extending our appreciation to these individuals for dedicating many years of faithful service to Dordt College and for the impact they have had on our students and the college community.

Wags and Whiskers (new date)

Bring your dog, cat, parakeet, or hedgehog to the Orange City Bark Park on April 21 and bring your family for Wags and Whiskers (originally scheduled for April 14). Join community members at 2 p.m. for a short presentation by the sheriff’s Department K9 Unit and meet one of the dogs that assists local law enforcement officers. The event includes a short walk around Veteran’s Park, having fun with your family and pet, and possibly winning a door prize. End It! for Autumn Color Run

Location: Veterans Park, Orange City, IA

Register now for the 3rd Annual End It! for Autumn Color Run on Saturday, April 21. Register online and choose to run the 5K or the 1 mile fun run. The color run starts at 9:30 am at Veterans Park in Orange City. Not a runner? Not a problem! You can go online and order a shirt and choose to join the fun at the carnival, pancake breakfast and inflatables. Fun for the whole family and to support a great cause. All proceeds go to youth scholarships for Camp Autumn. April 9 is the last day to register and get a t-shirt, but you can register up to the day of the run. Plain Conversation

Location: Downtown Grill, Orange City

The government’s enforcement of Title IX, a federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination based on sex, is the topic of the next Plain Conversation, a monthly gathering sponsored by the Sioux County Democrats. The program will begin at 7:00 pm on Monday, April 23, in the large dining room of the Downtown Grille in Orange City. Julie Vermeer Elliott, vice president for student life at Northwestern College, will explain how Title IX relates to sexual misconduct on college campuses. She will also discuss how the Department of Education’s guidelines for handling sexual misconduct allegations differ under the Obama and Trump administrations. Plain Conversation is free and open to the public.

A1C Diabetes Screening

We all know that wellness screenings are important. That’s why Sioux Center Health is offering a special $10 discount to the first 50 people to sign up for the A1C diabetes screening test made possible by the Sioux Center Kiwanis Club. Sioux Center Medical Clinic is held from April 23 to 27 from 8:00 to 11:00 am and Hull Medical Clinic on April 26 from 8:00 to 11:00 am. To schedule an appointment, call 722-8131. Emerging Farmer Workshop

Iowa Learning Farms will host an emerging farmer workshop on Tuesday, April 24 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the northwest Commons at Dordt College. The event is free and includes a complimentary meal. An emerging farmer is anyone who has recently started farming, would like to farm or would like to have a voice in the management of their family’s farm. Workshop topics include discussions on grazing, no-tillage, soil conservation and water quality, ideas for developing sustainable business plans and networking with fellow Emerging Farmers. Ag Day

On April 27, head to Ag Day at Dordt College for a fun way to learn more about the local agriculture industry. Sponsored by Dordt’s student-run Ag Club, Ag Day draws in students and community members of all ages. Over 300 local students are expected to attend Ag Day as a field trip. This free event will be held from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm in Dordt College’s parking lot just north of the Campus Center.
