The NAMI Family-to-Family Course is being offered in Sioux Center. This free 11-week program of education and support for families of persons with a mental illness will be held at Central Reformed Church from 7-9:30pm on Thursday evenings for 11 weeks beginning January 10, 2019. The class is designed for parents, siblings, spouses, adult children, and close friends of persons with a severe mental illness. For more information or to enroll, call Shirley at 712-722-4462. Auditions for Sioux Center’s 2018 Summer Celebration musical: Into the Woods will be held Tuesday, Jan 15 and Friday, Jan 18 from 6-9 pm. Callbacks will be held on Saturday January 19 from 9-12 am, also at Te Paske Theater. Performances will run June 6-9. Rehearsals will begin the week of January 21st and will primarily be M/T/Th evenings, with additional evenings closer to show dates. Not all cast members will be needed at every rehearsal.
There is a Jason Gray Concert being held on January 19th at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in George, IA starting at 9 pm. Tickets are $12 in advance or $17 at the door. You can get tickets here.
The Selah Concert at Unity Christian is rescheduled for January 19 (postponed from the snowstorm). If you purchased tickets prior to the concert being postponed, the tickets are still valid and no further action is necessary. If you want to purchase tickets, click here.
The Unity Christian Catered Fundraiser Dinner is rescheduled for January 19 prior to the Selah concert. If you made reservations prior to the postponement, PLEASE CONFIRM with the UCHS office that you are still planning to attend. Call the office to reserve a table of eight or they will make tables of eight. This meal will be catered by Triple Box and will replace the Hostess Supper fundraiser. Free-will donation. Appetizers begin at 5:20 pm and dinner begins at 5:30 pm.
Chili Cook-off & Feed. Saturday, January 19, 5-7 pm. Contestants are asked to bring 2-3 gallons of chili in a roaster oven. Free-will donation to sample and vote on chili. Cinnamon rolls and drink will be provided. Prizes will be awarded to the top two chilies and proceeds will benefit sending 5 young men to Boys State June 9-14, 2019.
Looking for something to do outdoors this winter? Have you always wanted to try ice fishing, but didn’t have the equipment or guidance? Maybe you just want to join for a day on the ice? A public ice fishing clinic, hosted by the Sioux County Conservation Board, will take place on January 19th from 10am-noon at Big Sioux Rec Area near Hawarden. Bring the family, sack lunch, and a bucket for your seat. The day includes ice fishing instructions, equipment to use, as well as snow shoes for you to try. Holes will be drilled and bait is provided. No day park pass necessary during the program. Ages 16 and over need valid fishing license to actively fish. Pre-registration is required.
Sheldon Christian School will have their annual Baked Potato Supper on Monday, January 21, at the school gym from 5-7:00pm. Come on out for a warm baked potato with all the delicious toppings, plus a salad, roll, and homemade dessert. A free will donation will be received.
Sioux Center Christian School 7th and 8th graders are excited to present Mary Poppins JR. The performances are Friday, February 1st and Saturday, February 2nd at 7 pm in the Te Paske Theater. No tickets required – doors open at 6:30 pm. A freewill offering will be received for the SCCS Drama Department.
