Día de Los Niños, Día de Los Libros

Location: Orange City Public Library

The Orange City Public Library will host its fourth annual Día de Los Niños, Día de Los Libros event from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday, April 28. This celebration of children’s literacy will include activities for kids of all ages, story readings, a game of lotería, free Spanish and bilingual children’s books, and free snacks.

Work Day

Date: May 5, 2018

Location: Inspiration Hills, Inwood, IA

Bring your church group, youth group, senior class, friends, or family and spend the day outside preparing Inspiration Hills for Summer Camp on May 5. Your volunteer time will help get the camp cleaned from winter, then groomed and ready for summer. Contact Terry Dozark at 605-359-1258 or terrydozark@gmail.com to sign up your group. Specific volunteer jobs include log splitters, 4 wheelers and 2 wheel trailers to groom trails, help with staining and painting, Electic Fence installation for the Horse Camp, and many difference Miscellaneous projects.

2018 Christian Homeschool Conference of South Dakota

The 2018 Christian Homeschool Conference of South Dakota will be on May 11 and 12 from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm at the Sioux Falls Convention Center. The speakers, vendors and activities at the Christian Homeschool conference of South Dakota are dedicated and coordinated to challenge, inspire and encourage you and your family in your homeschooling journey. Early-bird pricing of $35 end on April 27.

GEMS Open

New Life Treatment Center Horse Ride-a-Thon

Date: May 19, 2018

Time: 10 AM

Location: New Life Treatment Center, Woodstock, MN

The 39th Annual New Life Treatment Center Horse Ride-a-Thon will start at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 19 with a ride from Pipestone County Fairgrounds to New Life Treatment Center at Woodstock. Lunch will be served following the ride. Come join in part or all of the events. Lunch, wards and prizes will be at 1:30 pm. In case of bad weather, an announcement will be on local radio stations. Supporters and riders are invited to come to New Life Treatment Center at 11:00 am for lunch, prizes and awards, even if the weather is bad. Support the Horse Ride-a-Thon by sponsoring a rider or you can mail you contribution to New Life Treatment Center, PO Box 38 Woodstock, MN 56186. Proceeds will go towards furnishings and equipment to benefit clients. Call (507) 777-4321 for information or to volunteer or register. Volunteers to set up, drive rids, bring snacks to the trail and serve food are needed.

Babysitter Lessons and Safety Training Class

Sioux Center Health is providing a Babysitter Lessons and Safety Training Class on Saturday, June 2 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Early Childhood Center. Topics will include first aid, emergency plans, basic infant and child care and more. Your child must be 11 years old to attend. Cost is $15. Stop & Breathe: Caring for the Caregiver

Location: Prairie Winds Event Center, Orange City

The Siouxland Aging Coalition will be holding a free conference on May 30 from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm called Stop & Breathe: Caring for the Caregiver. This conference is free to anyone who would benefit including nurses, social workers, and other professionals working with the aging population and caregivers. Family members and community members who would benefit are also welcome. The purpose of the conference is to show how to identify the needs of caregivers in our area, identify strategies to assist in managing caregiver stress, and to demonstrate and describe how to care for oneself while being a caregiver. Village Northwest Unlimited Run, Walk and Roll

The 13th Annual Village Northwest Unlimited Run, Walk and Roll will be on Saturday, June 2. The 5k race, 10k race and 1 mile walk/roll all begin at 8:00 am on the grounds of Village Northwest Unlimited located 1.5 block north of Highway 18 in Sheldon. Preregistration is strongly encouraged online at bit.ly/RunWalkRoll2018. Register by May 18 to guarantee a T-shirt. Entry fee is $25 until May 11, $30 May 11-25 and $35 after May 25.
