Orange City Arts – “Felicitas – A One-Woman Show”

Orange City Arts presents Felicitas: A One-Woman Show on September 9, 2017. New York actress Libby Skala presents this true story of a spunky, tough-love Austrian infant nurse who escapes the Third Reich to nurture order in American society, one baby at a time. A moving tribute to a life of service and sacrifice, Skala gleaned this story from her own family history and share’s her aunt’s journey to inspire us all.

NISO AUDITIONS – SEPTEMBER 8 & 9

Auditions for membership in the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra (NISO) will be held on Friday, September 8 and Saturday, September 9, in the Music Building on the campus of Dordt College. Anyone wishing to play in the orchestra for the first time must audition and all student members need to re-audition each year. Cornerstone Prison Church Faith Fellowship Weekend

The Cornerstone Prison Church Faith Fellowship Weekend is Friday, September 22: 6-8pm and September 23 – 24: 7:15am-4pm each day. The theme for the weekend is “Formula for Successful Living” focusing on Jeremiah 29:11-14, 1 John 2:9-11, and more. Join them for worship, large group talks and small group discussions, and let them know if you can attend the whole weekend or just a portion of it. Sioux County Dutch Oven Gathering

Location: Oak Grove Park, Sioux County, IA

Do you love outdoor cooking, or want to learn more about it? Then join Sioux County Conservation Board for their annual Dutch Oven Gathering on Saturday, September 30 at Oak Grove Park, Turkey Ridge Campground. Dishes to include: sides and breads, main dishes and desserts. Dishes will be judged at 6pm, with prizes awarded, potluck meal to follow. Call Sunday Ford to sign up as a cooker at 712-552-3057. First 10 cookers to register will receive a free campsite at Turkey Ridge for Saturday night. Public is welcome to come observe and ask questions between 3:30pm and 6pm at the campground and the Big Sioux Shelter, and join the potluck at 6pm (please bring a dish to share in the potluck, does not need to be a Dutch Oven dish.)

Orange City Arts – Boston Brass

Orange City Arts presents: Boston Brass. The iconic Boston Brass ensemble has been captivating audiences of all ages and around the world with their unique brand of entertainment for over 30 years. Lively repartee and a generous helping of humor and personality “bridge the ocean of classical formality” to delight crowds with a wide selection of musical styles in a fun and friendly atmosphere. They will be performing on November 2 in partnership with Northwestern College Music Department and Woodbury-Central High School.

Grief Support Group

Orange City Area Home Health & Hospice is hosting a five-week Grief Support Group for adults who have experienced the loss of a loved one. The group will meet each Tuesday from October 17 to November 14 in the lower level of Orange City Area Health System’s downtown campus on Central Avenue in Orange City. Professionals and past participants will share information and experiences to help group members discover skills needed to work through their grief process. There is no cost to attend the support group, but pre-registration is required by calling Orange City Area Home Health & Hospice at 712-737-5279 by October 15.

Family-to-Family Course

Location: Central Reformed Church, Sioux Center, IA

The NAMI Family-to-Family Course. The free 11-week program of education and support for families of persons with a mental illness will be held at Central Reformed Church from 7 to 9:30pm on Thursday evenings beginning September 7, 2017. The class is designed for parents, siblings, spouses, adult children and close friends of persons with a severe mental illness. The curriculum was developed by a mental health professional with personal experience with ill family members. Instructors are trained family member volunteers.
