The Iowa House passed a bill which allows for formation of charter schools in the state. Representative Skyler Wheeler of Orange City managed the bill on the House floor this week.
Wheeler says the bill sets up a rigorous process for parents or interest groups to set up a charter school.
Wheeler says charter schools are attractive in places where parents have little educational choice.
Wheeler says he was asked during debate how the bill would impact his district. He says there are so many options for public, private and home schools, that this would have virtually no impact here.
The bill moves on to the Senate for consideration. That chamber has passed its own charter school bill.
