State Senator Jeff Taylor of Sioux Center begins his first session in the legislature, after being elected last November. Among his committee assignments is the Senate Education Committee. Taylor says the committee will work to make sure rules already in place to provide education during the pandemic are followed, and the school districts held accountable.
He says his priority issues include improving education, prolife legislation, and state rights.
Taylor says state power has been slowly eroded by the Federal Government.
Taylor says states are fighting back against the federal government through the laws they pass.
Taylor says the federal government has generally ignored the rights of states for the past 50 years, and Iowa must do more to protect them.
Lawmakers begin the session today. Governor Kim Reynolds will deliver her Condition of the State address tomorrow.
