A northwest Iowa lawmaker backs a bill that would eliminate hiring documents known non-compete agreements. State Senator Jeff Taylor of Sioux Center says these agreements originally had a reasonable intent.
But lately, non-competes are aimed at low-wage employees.
To Taylor, eliminating non-compete agreements is a matter of fairness.
Taylor says employers hiring for minimum wage jobs are increasingly using non-compete agreements so that their employees don’t switch jobs over to a competitor.
Non-compete areements are generally used with employees in highly technical jobs, or where e accompany invests a great deal in an employees training or education.
