The Senate Judiciary Committee this week held a hearing on reducing gun violence. Ranking committee member Chuck Grassley of Iowa told the hearing about what he’s learned from recent shootings, including the one this week in Colorado.
Those cities which defunded police, like Minneapolis and Portland , saw a rapid spike in violent crime.
Grassley is interested in helping law enforcement agencies to combat violence in American cities
Grassley intends to re-introduce legislation which trains law enforcement officers to detect the signs of people in crisis, people who may resort to using weapons indiscriminately.
Senate Democrats want to move quickly on gun control bills. President Biden urged approval of improvements to gun background check systems, and ban the sale of assault weapons.
