U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley says Iowa farmers will benefit from a recent visit by the U.S. Ag Secretary. Grassley said Sonny Perdue toured damage from the derecho which struck the state last month.
Perdue, before his visit, designated over a dozen Iowa counties as farm disaster areas. This opens the door to aid from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Senator Grassley was unsure if the aid that’s made available to farmers is enough.
18 counties in central Iowa were named presidential disaster areas because of flattened crops due to the wind storm. Another 13 counties in western Iowa are eligible for assistance due to drought losses.
