The Iowa Senate approved a bill that would allow parents to teach their children drivers ed. State Senator Jeff Taylor said the issue began with a discussion on limiting drivers ed instruction to certain parents.
The bill originally was a Democratic amendment, but later became a GOP sponsored bill.
Taylor says parents will have to meet the same requirements for instruction as formal drivers ed programs.
Professional drivers ed instructors and school districts which host drivers ed programs claim it’s less safe to allow parents to teach their children how to drive. The bill was earlier passed by the House.
